A night with Sam Beam.

I don't go out to many concerts, not like I used to - but I try and go to one every once and a while. Playing and watching live music is really a strong passion which I carry and its sort of something, I really enjoy. Anyways - I don't know how many of you know who Sam Beam is (or his band) but he is the guy behind Iron and Wine.

Lets establish this fact first - for me personally, I am sort of a nerd and over the years have been making this list of dream bands which I really want to see before I die type of thing - and I am slowly trying to cross those bands off of that list (e.g. mewithoutyou, bright eyes, etc) and Iron and Wine has always been quite high on this list. I've been listening to his songs for probably a good two or three years now, and they've been a really large contributor to the style of music I am playing as of late.

Point being, last night I got to cross Iron and wine off my list of bands to see.

The night as a whole was fairly interesting - sort of crazy, considering the size of sydney and not knowing exactly where to go, or how to get there - we took a train into town, a train station which was apparently close to the UNI (didn't seem very close to us!) We walked for probably a good 20 - 35 minutes, not really knowing where we were going, just knowing we were going in the right direction. Thank goodness after asking a few people we found some guys who pointed us in the right direction, funny enough - we walked right by it - so we back tracked quite a bit.
We ended up getting there right on time, the place was packed (it was hard to move around)

Point being, it was great, the songs, the atmosphere - he walked out on stage and people just started clapping like they would when trying to convince an artist to play an encore. He sang many songs - some old ones and some new. I personally enjoy his older albums more, the new one is good - its just in a different direction than most of his older songs. We had a great night. He sort of just kept playing and playing, I began to feel sort of agitated just waiting for the last song. Its tough when you're in a far suburb of sydney, the public transport is far from good - so we figured we should leave when 11:20 rolled around. We weren't totally sure how we were going to get home, but we knew we had the Big Man on our side! We were standing outside asking for directions to the train station which we originally came from, and as soon as we started to ask - two young guys, in their twenties, passed us and kind of did the "follow us" thing. As we walked with them - they began to inform us that Red fern station was probably not the place you want to go at that time of night - and just to think that we were close to going there, nothing to stop us.

We ended up going to central station, which is a bit further, and we caught a later train - I was just glad when I laid my head on my pillow at home.

Not only is Australia stretching me spiritually - but mentally, and just my ability to take care of myself, learning to make choices in downtown sydney at night haha.
A person just needs to be smart about it all.

Anyways, it was a fun little adventure, don't worry mom - I am alright!

Thanks for reading everyone,
Take a listen to some iron and wine, its really good.
