this months listenings.
I have yet to discuss the music to your right, so thus I will!
Let me start by saying - lately, I have been going back, back to music which I really like and music which I use to listen to a lot. I am very excited that I have done this. I have started to listen to more music which is slowly inspiring me to try and make more of my talent.
here they are:
The bad plus - suspisious activity
One of the newest albums from the trio. I love this album, the older one I had was great as well. This one seems more fresh. its more mature - and just as complicated as the last one. Their style of jazz is so random that it really causes a musician such as myself to examine it and really listen, try and figure it out. I love it! I would definitly suggest checking out all their music, and if you're in calgary this summer I believe they are playing the jazz festival there. Check it out.
Final fantasy - He poos clowds
The violin player from the arcade fire. I heard about this album a long time ago, I heard both good and bad things. I have yet to get really deep into it, but there are a few songs which I have latched onto. The music is intruiging, it can be dark. It sort of leaves me on the edge of my seat, waiting for something to happen. It is mainly violin based with various styles of vocals around it. It is well layered and quite awesome! Once again, something worth your time.
John scofield - Up all night
Love your jazz? Scofield has countless albums, he has been around the block a few times and is definitly one of the modern greats of guitar based jazz. His styles of jazz have varied from album to album - this one I picked up randomly and I have totally loved it. If you love instrumental jazz, you'll probably love this!
Sondre lerche - Phontom punch
Still just a young adult, Sondre keeps putting out albums which I can not put down once I get ahold of it. It all started off with his older album and the song two way monologue. It got me hooked. This new album is such as the last one but more pop based and a little less weird. it drives, and it pops well - it makes me want to dance as I walk down the hall. his unforgettable voice really adds to it, not to mention he is great with his words. He is just generally a great song writer. Check out all of his stuff, especially his latest jazz album with the faces down quartet.
Rosie Thomas - These friends of mine
I got the chance to hear one of these songs (if this city never sleeps) on her myspace and I was pretty stoked over it, so I got the album and I was satisfied. For the past month or two I have been looking for that album that would be exactly what I wanted musicially - and this is it. If I were to recommend one album to anyone, this would be it. She teamed up with two of her good friends, denision whitmer, and sufjan stevens. Two artists which I already love. When they work together - things get even better. If you're looking for that one album to hit the spot, this might be it. With her quiet voice, and that feeling of emotion conveyed through it. The smooth guitar, and the awesome banjo under everything. Check it out!!!
I believe that is it. I hope that you like some of this music as well.
Take care everyone - TGI thursday.
