Cassadaga - Bright eyes
I have always been a fan of the way Connor's songs writing, and lyrical brilliance. Lately I am always unsure of new albums once I know the artist has an awesome album out, its sort of like "how can they top that?" But I don't know why I even questioned. The new album has more of a country feel to it, maybe that is due to one to many beers on his part. He still has a fairly dark side to his lyrics, but I deal with it I guess? When it comes down to it, I have a lot of respect for the guy, and I love the new album just as much - if not more then the older ones.
Neon Bible - The arcade fire
I was suprised when I put my head phones on to hear the track "keep the car running". You have to understand, I was never a fan of the arcade fire. I think it has to do with this thing I have, if a lot of people are crazy about it - I will try to not be. Weird I know, but the point being, the new album has really caught my ear - and I have found myself listening to it more then often. I love the collection of instruments, Its unique and adds a lot to the band. His ghostly voice, really suits the music quite well. The drummer has a good sense of what to do, and I think that is more than important, as a whole they really do an awesome job. Two thumbs up.
Candylion - Gruff Rhys
Last june I got the chance to see Gruff live, when he was opening on Bright Eye's Canadian tour. I quite enjoy his set, in some aspects almost as much as I enjoyed Connors set. He did a lot of weird things that really caught my ear, and it was all new to me - so that added some appeal as well. I got his latest album and as I frst listened to it, I was fairly skeptial. Its grown on me, and a friend picked me up the vinyl copy of the album while in philly. Everything sounds better on vinyl.
The album is sort of odd, but I can see it growing to be one of my favorite albums, it sort of sounds like he is on drugs most of the album. I am probably wrong, but singing about a lion made out of candy? Who knows. He writes a good song, and uses an array of different sounds to complete the task. For now I would give it One thumb, and maybe a half of a big toe.
All day - Mates of state
One band which I do not think I will not get sick of. The combination of their two voices, between the melodies and the harmonies - it is wonderful. Their tones, the bass, the organ. I can not get enough! When I first heard them about a year ago I was sort of unsure, it was a little to happy and dancy for me. I guess I have grown to love it. I love the beats, and the ogran solos. This short ep, has four great songs. Mainly Good (all in your head) caught my ear, it is a beautifully composed song. They are fun, a change from all the serious music which I listen to. I would recommend this to any and all of my friends.
Five score and seven years ago - Relient K
Let me start off by saying I have never liked Relient K, they've always been around my listening since I've gone to church and a youth group. But I have never bought an album or really enjoyed any of it. It all changed this one evening as I drove to band practice. Jordan always says things such as "man, you have not lived if you have not heard this song", and in this case - he was one hundred percent right. The song "deathbed", is simply a saga. It is so layered and well done, mostly - matthews lyrics are unreal. Its an epic trilogy, it makes you feel as though you've walked through this life time with this person in the song, and I can't say thats something I've seen in a song before. Its marvelous. The piano, the drums, the strings - all one giant good thing. I am not a fan of Jon foreman, but his part at the end of the song deathbed really worked. As I listen to it right now, I am fairly speechless. It is sincere, and I don't think I am most of the time, nor is our society. It is probably on of the best songs I've heard this year, and i would give the album two thumbs up (mainly because of that last song).
Swiss army romance - Dashboard Confessional
Its old, its lame, its horrible - yet I still enjoy it. For some reason I decided to break out the old dashboard albums, and this one is still a regular listen on my ipod these days. Hopefully that doesn't make me to emo.
There you have it, just a few of the currently listenings, nothing special.
Check some of the artists out, support them. Its all good.
As for now, i hope you're all having an enjoyable weekend - and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Lets never be lonely again,
Zachary
