am so caught right now. I do not understand my school, my class? Pardon my opinion - but I am sick of the town kids in my class. They have such a narrow view on life, and it often suits their circumstance.

I sat in history and listened to a teacher talk with the students, they were discussing some political cartoons - it evetually got onto the issue how it is wrong that they are building more casinos in North battleford. They figure that they are feeing the addictions - whose addiction? It got to the point that someone mentioned that it is proven fact that The native american people are more given to addictions such as drinking and gambling. I really struggle with this. Does your race determine of how easily you are given to a certain addiction? I don't think so. To be honest I found it fairly offensive. I no first hand that this is not always the case. I get what they were trying to say, and yes feeding addictions is not a good thing - but I really think that that comment was quite close to being racist. If it wasnt already.

I find it hard because I just did surveys within the grade eleven and twelve class - I know that over 70% of my class struggle with drinking and being involved in sexual activity. Where is their ground to base this comment off of - that native people struggle with it more. Just because white people hide it within their homes, does not mean they struggle with it less.

I got told to be more respectful because I was whispering to my friend, just before this - a fellow student just yelled how stupid gay poeple were and that he wanted to shoot them. All he had said to him was - "that was a little harsh". I got told to be more respectful for whispering ? Yikes.

Am I over reacting? Probably. Am I saying I am better then everyone? No. My one question is where is the line, and when will someone speak up.
